“What Do We Have Here?”— Introducing the Dwyer Omega IEF Series

On our latest episode of What Do We Have Here?, we sat down with JR Vanegas, Southeast Distribution Sales Manager for Dwyer Omega, to explore one of the most versatile and user-friendly tools to hit the flow-metering market: the IEF Series Insertion Electromagnetic Flow Meter.

This new platform isn’t just another meter — it’s a complete rethinking of how flow and BTU measurement should work in today’s HVAC and hydronic systems.

Host: Tim Bonner (Stromquist)
Guest: J.R. Venegas (DwyerOmega)
Topic: Insertion Electromagnetic Flow Transmitter

What Makes the IEF Series Different?
Most flow meters require dozens of configurations, multiple models, and complex ordering. Dwyer Omega flipped that model on its head.

? Two main versions — endless flexibility

The IEF Series consolidates what used to require dozens of SKUs into just a couple of highly configurable models:

  • IEF – for flow measurement
  • IEF-V – for full BTU/energy metering
This means distributors can stock fewer meters, customers can adjust everything in the field, and retrofits become far easier — and faster.

Field-Configurable, Installer-Friendly

One of the biggest wins for contractors and operators? Complete configurability on-site.

The IEF allows you to:

  • Adjust settings directly in the field
  • Swap between LCD, blind, or remote displays
  • Use the same screen across multiple meters for setup
  • Retro-fit directly into existing 1” ball valve hot-tap ports
  • Avoid extra welding, spools, or pipe changes
Your screen becomes part of your toolkit, not permanent hardware. That alone makes setup faster, cheaper, and more intuitive.

Installation Kits Built for Real-World Conditions

Dwyer Omega thought through everything a tech might need on-site. The optional installation kit includes:

  • Ultrasonic pipe thickness gauge
  • Alignment rods & calibration sticks
  • Weld-delete fittings
  • Hot-tap kits (stainless or brass)
  • Setup tools

This is a system designed to work in the real world — not just in the lab.

Outputs & Features Built for BAS Integration

No matter what your system requires, the IEF can speak its language.

Supported outputs include:

  • Analog
  • Current
  • Pulse (user-defined pulse rates)
  • Alarms: reverse flow, empty pipe
All of it is configurable through the on-board menu or pre-configured at the factory.

And for customers who need accuracy documentation, the IEF offers:

  • Standard accuracy
  • High-accuracy (1% of reading)
  • Optional NIST-traceable certificates

Introducing the IEF-V: Full BTU/Energy Metering

his upgrade of the basic IEF chassis adds:

  • Two temperature sensors (hot & cold)
  • Multiple thermal well options
  • Configurability for glycol concentration in the field
  • No need to send meters back for recalibration
Energy metering becomes:

  • Easier
  • More accurate
  • Far more cost-effective
The IEF-V provides a complete BTU monitoring solution that adapts to whatever the system throws at it.

Built for Demanding Environments

JR highlighted several major design upgrades:

  • 25% thicker, heavier-gauge insertion tube
  • Full 316 stainless-steel wetted components
  • Rated for 400 PSI and 20 ft/sec
  • Stronger construction than many market competitors
This is hardware that’s built to last — even in aggressive or high-pressure hydronic systems.

Lead Times & Delivery

Need it fast?
As of November 2025, standard IEF units ship with a 10-day lead time. Many configurations are already in stock, and LCD displays can be added instantly in the shop before shipment.

Fast, flexible, and field-ready.
