End of Life for T4031A Controllers

Honeywell’s T4031A1057/B Remote Temperature Controller is retiring, prompting a transition to modern solutions.

Why it matters: Understanding the implications of this change is crucial for those with the T4031A1057/B installed.

  • The recommended replacement is the T775 Series 2000, a modern electronic controller offering enhanced capabilities.
Key considerations: Before switching, consider sensors, electrical loads, and external relay requirements.

  • Stromquist can guide you through understanding your options and finding the right setup for your application.

T4031A1057/B Retiring: What to Know About the T775 Replacement Path

Honeywell has retired the T4031A1057/B remote temperature controller from production. If you have an existing application using this control, the good news is there is a modern replacement path. Here is what is changing, what the T775 brings to the table, and what to keep in mind before making the transition.

What Is Changing?

The T4031A family has long been used in cooling applications that require a remotely mounted sensing element. Typical applications include ducts, tanks, freezers, coolers, display cases, and defrost termination.

Production of the T4031A1057/B has ceased and the model is no longer available for purchase. Honeywell will continue to provide product support for the discontinued controller.

The key takeaway: If you are replacing a T4031A1057/B in an existing system, plan for a transition to a T775-based solution rather than expecting a like-for-like mechanical replacement.

From T4031A to T775

Honeywell T4031A Remote Temperature Controller

T4031A

The T4031A is a mechanical refrigeration temperature controller with remote sensing, an adjustable dial setpoint, and a snap-acting switch. It was designed for straightforward on/off temperature control in a range of cooling applications.

Honeywell T775 Electronic Stand-Alone Controller

T775 Series 2000

The T775 is an electronic stand-alone controller that can remotely sense temperature and provide switched and, depending on model, proportional outputs. It adds a graphical interface, digital configuration, scheduling features, sensor calibration, and a broader set of control options.

T4031A  upgrades to  T775

Why the T775 Is the Recommended Upgrade

The T775 does more than replace the basic temperature-control function. It gives contractors and facility teams a modern electronic platform with more flexibility for setup and future service.

Digital Setup An easy-to-use graphical interface replaces the traditional mechanical dial and makes configuration easier to review and adjust.
Remote Temperature Sensing The T775 supports remote temperature sensors and is designed for stand-alone temperature control applications.
More Control Options Depending on the selected model, the T775 can provide multiple relay outputs, modulating outputs, reset control, or special sequencing capabilities.
Built-In Scheduling Standard models include time-clock functionality that can support setback or output-disable strategies.
Sensor Calibration Inputs can be calibrated to compensate for sensor or wiring differences in the field.
Broader Setpoint Range The T775 Series 2000 supports a temperature setpoint range of -40°F to 248°F, depending on the application and sensor selection.

Important: This Is Not Necessarily a Drop-In Swap

The biggest thing to understand is that moving from the T4031A1057/B to a T775 may require changes beyond simply replacing the controller on the wall.

External relay requirement: For this replacement application, the T775 remote temperature controller requires external line-voltage relay(s) with a current rating appropriate for the connected load. The existing load, wiring, sensor arrangement, and control sequence should be reviewed before installation.

The T775 is an operating control and is not a safety or limit control. Applications that require a separate safety or limit function should continue to use the appropriate dedicated safety device.

Before You Replace Your T4031A

A little information up front can make selecting the right T775 configuration much easier. Before contacting Stromquist, it is helpful to know:

  • The complete model number of the existing controller.
  • The voltage and electrical load being controlled.
  • The existing temperature range and setpoint.
  • How the current sensing bulb or sensor is installed.
  • Whether the controller is performing simple on/off control or part of a larger control sequence.
  • Any environmental requirements such as washdown or outdoor exposure.

Not sure which T775 you need? Send us the existing controller information and application details. The Stromquist team can help you work through the replacement path.
