Connected Power: Reducing Energy Waste

Honeywell has introduced a new solution aimed at helping facility managers reduce energy waste by managing power usage at the plug level. The Connected Power system monitors and automates power usage for devices plugged into outlets, which often consume around 30% of electricity in office settings.

Many devices, even when turned off, continue to draw power if left plugged in, contributing to unnecessary energy consumption. Connected Power helps building managers address this invisible energy waste by ensuring that energy is used only when necessary.

Plug Loads: A Hidden Energy Drain
Plug loads refer to the energy used by equipment like computers, monitors, and printers when plugged into an outlet. These loads can account for up to 25% of total energy consumption in typical office buildings and over 50% in more energy-efficient facilities. Managing these plug loads is a cost-effective way to reduce overall energy use and delay the need for renewable energy investments to meet net-zero targets. Connected Power Features
Honeywell's solution allows building managers to autonomously power down unused outlets based on occupancy data or space usage schedules. The system uses existing wiring and links to a digital dashboard, providing centralized control over energy consumption across an entire building. It can integrate with most existing building management systems or function as a stand-alone solution, managing up to 2,500 outlets.

Benefits of Connected Power
By reducing the energy wasted by idle devices, Connected Power helps cut down electricity costs and carbon emissions. Additionally, it can detect potential issues, such as elevated outlet temperatures, and alert users to prevent power interruptions in critical areas.

With this solution, Honeywell empowers organizations to take control of their energy usage and reduce waste, contributing to more sustainable operations.
